Daniel Costello, a native New Yorker, was a freelance horn player in the US and Canada before he came to Europe. His principal teachers were John Zirbel, David Jolley and Malte Burba. Costello was appointed principal horn of La Camerata, a chamber orchestra in Athens, Greece in 1997 and later became principal horn of the Schönebeck Chamber Orchestra in Germany. In 2001, Daniel Costello was appointed associate principal horn of the Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, Germany, a position he still holds.
In new music circles, Daniel has collaborated with Zinc & Copper Works, where he helped research microtonal and half-valve techniques. He has lectured in extended horn techniques at the Hochschule für Musik "Hans Eisler" in Berlin. In addition to performing all over Europe with Ostravska Banda, he has also appeared with KNM Berlin and as a soloist at Jazz am Wendelstein, the LeipJAZZig Orchester, the Leipzig Bach Orchester, the Radar Ensemble and the Anhaltische Philharmonie. He was also responsible for over 25 world premieres as music director of the Encore Brass Quintet and has recently translated a book into English on experimental brass technique for Breitkopf & Härtel. www.danielcostello.info
