Jurij Galatenko graduated in conducting from the National Music Academy of Ukraine. Since 1998 he has served as the choirmaster of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava and since 2002 he has been the choirmaster of the Ostrava Association of Female Teachers of Singing. He is also the Artistic Director of the professional vocal ensemble Canticum Ostrava, which was established in 2003 specially for the Ostrava Days festival where he also regularly performs. As part of NODO, he participated in the staging of the world premiere of Alois Hába’s opera Thy Kingdom Come and in 2020 he staged the Czech premiere of the a capella opera Wedding by Ana Sokolović. Moreover, he has wide-ranging pedagogical experience and taught conducting at the University of Ostrava.
