Jan Jakub Monowid studied under professor Jerzy Artysz at Warsaw Academy of Music and then continued his studies at the International Opera Studio in Zurich. He began his concert work while still a student, taking part in performances of works by such composers as Bach, Pergolesi, Handel, Liszt and Britten, in Poland and abroad. Besides singing opera repertoire, he has performed numerous chamber concerts featuring early and contemporary music all over Europe. He has recorded discs featuring works by Polish composers (the ‘opera omnia’ of both Grzegorz Gerwazy Gorczycki and Stanisław Sylwester Szarzyński), Handel’s Giulio Cesare andalso contemporary music (e.g. And Farewell Goes Out Sighing by Kancheli, Shakespeares Sonnets by Mykietyn, Seven Sonnets of Michelangeloby Britten, Sonnets sur un poème de Louise Labé by Dalbavie).
