Lead by the Czech-American composer, conductor and flutist Petr Kotík, the Ostravská banda performed Petr Bakla’s Material and Dreams, now just one year after its premiere at Ostrava Days 2009. Another Prague premiere, the group also performed György Ligeti’s Concert for piano and orchestra with the brilliant Belgian piano soloist Daan Vandewalle, who impressed the audience with his performance just as he did at the work’s Czech premiere during Ostrava Days 2009. Closing the first part of the concert was Orée-Oraison-Hors-Raison by Jean Paul Dessy, who appeared as both a composer and a performer, playing cello with the Ostravská banda. And closing the entire concert was, for the first time, the Czech-English version of Petr Kotík’s Letters to Olga, with Alexander Komlosi and well known Czech actor Jan Tříska performing as narrators. Both speakers performed masterfully.
