Jurij Galatenko
Jurij Galatenko graduated in conducting at the Pyotr Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine (Kiev). Since 1998 he has been the choirmaster of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava. He is the artistic director of the professional vocal ensemble Canticum Ostrava, which was established in 2003 for the Ostrava Days festival and appears at a variety of music festivals in the Czech Republic. Since 2002, Galetenko has been the choirmaster of the Singing Association of Female Ostrava Teachers. He is active as an instructor of conducting at the Ostrava University. Recent highlights of Galatenko’s activities with ensemble Canticum Ostrava include appearances in operas of Iannis Xenakis, Alois Hába, Ana Sokolović, or Luigi Nono within festival NODO / New Opera Days Ostrava.
