Sean Kiley
In pursuit of his PhD in Music Composition and Psychology through the interdisciplinary program at the University of Victoria (British Columbia), Sean Kiley explores the varieties of sonically induced trance states and the factors within music and composition, which give rise to these experiences. Through the lens of time perception in musical loops, he studies the implications of time consciousness in relation to altered states of mind and sound healing. As a composer and performer, he is deeply interested in soundscapes and improvisational heuristics as well as sonic evocations of transpersonal psychology. Kiley also performs as a classical guitarist and folk musician under the guise of Seele Geist. He is the founder of record label and music collective RGMS and an active recording engineer in Victoria. Kiley’s writings and compositional processes traverse phenomenology, neurology, ritual, metaphysics, mysticism, astrology, and hermeneutics. He holds degrees in composition and sound engineering from DePaul University, and a Masters degree in music composition from the University of Victoria. He is also the recipient of the 2024 graduate fellowship from the Centre for Studies in Religion and Society at the University of Victoria.
