Matthias Schneider-Hollek studied flute and composition (electronic music) in Stuttgart. Since the beginning of his carrer, he was interested in collaboration with other musicians, visual artists and computers. He founded “digital masters” in 1992, a studio that became known throughout Europe for its innovative solutions in the performance of digital media for contemporary music and sound design. The list of collaborations with composers, conductors, ensembles and festivals reads like the “who is who” of modern Western European music (e.g. Bernhard Lang, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Péter Eötvös, Simon Steen-Andersen, and many others). Schneider-Hollek composes and produces for theater, performances, films and TV documentaries. His most recent work was the sound direction for the opera DORA by B. Lang in 2024 at the Stuttgart Opera House. Opernwelt voted the production “Premiere of the Year”. His work as a digital improviser, live electronics specialist, sound director and teacher has taken him to China, Mongolia, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan, Ukraine, the United States and Vietnam, among other places.
