Ostrava Days 2023 Live | Ostrava Center for New Music

Ostrava Days 2023 Live

With the new year, we have expanded our portfolio of released recordings with another physical CD and also a unique online compilation. Entitled Ostrava Days 2023 Live, the compilation presents recordings of selected pieces performed at the Ostrava Days 2023 festival. The three online "discs" contain a total of 15 recordings of music by Phil Niblock, Petr Kotík, Ann Cleare, Jan Dobiáš, Petr Cígler and OD Institute residents Ian Davis, James Helgeson, Franziska Wilhelm, Michal Wróblewski and others. In physical form there is also a CD with the shortlist of four compositions by Zygmunt Krauze, Ann Cleare, František Chaloupka and Ian Davis.

Out of the roughly one hundred tracks that were performed during the ten days of the festival (24 August–2 September 2023), fifteen were selected for the online compilation. This selection presents works by composers from Europe and the USA, for various ensembles – in addition to the resident ensembles (the chamber Ostravská banda, the symphonic ONO – Ostrava New Orchestra and the choir Canticum Ostrava), there will also be a guest appearance by Ensemble Garage from Cologne, visiting Ostrava for the first time. The youngest composer represented is Franziska Wilhelm (*2003), while the oldest composer is Iannis Xenakis (1922–2001). This wide generational range demonstrates Ostrava Days' commitment to presenting foundational 20th century works (such as Xenakis' Shaar) alongside compositions by contemporary composers, including the youngest generation.

The physical disc contains four selected compositions: world orchestral premieres by Zygmunt KrauzeFrantišek Chaloupka and Ian Davis, and the Czech premiere of a composition for six voices, solo trombone and electronics by Ann Cleare.

Three online "albums" are available on several online platforms. Those who appreciate physical CDs, please, contact us at skalova@newmusicostrava.cz. You can also write to this e-mail if you have any questions about the CD.
