Anna Clementi
Anna Clementi, Swedish-Italian, has spent her life between Stockholm, Berlin and Rome. In Rome she studied flute, acting and singing. In 1985 she moved to Berlin where she met Dieter Schnebel, with whom she collaborated for several years both as soloist as well as member of his ensemble Die Maulwerker. She put a special focus on the vocal and theatrical repertoire of John Cage. Her repertoire moves between contemporary music, improvisation, theater, cabaret, and club music. Clementi has participated in many festivals around the world and presented numerable premieres. The collaboration with composers is something frequent and familiar to her, the close work allows her to let her uniqueness as an interpreter emerge. Among the many collaborations: Dieter Schnebel, Laura Bianchini, Jürgen Grözinger, Stepha Schweiger, Nicola Sani, Aldo Clementi, Iris ter Schiphorst, Daniel Ott, Josef Anton Riedl, Aleks Kolkowski, Emanuele Casale, Rupert Huber, and Michael Hirsch. Numerous are the works of musical theater. In 2012 she performed El Jardín de las Delicias, the fluxus-opera by Wolf Vostell at Museo Vostell Malpartida in Spain and in 2013 Kassandra by Michael Jarrell at Radialsystem in Berlin for the Maerzmusik festival. She premiered Back into Nothingness by Núria Giménez-Comas in 2018. Stepha Schweiger’s opera The Mark on the Wall was written for and dedicated to Clementi. In 2019 she was the Narrator in Olga Neuwirth’s opera Orlando, which was premiered at the Vienna State Opera. She performed and curated several versions of Song Books as well as Theatre Piece and Variations by John Cage. In 2000 she directed Dieter Schnebel’s Glossolalie 2000 at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. She released two solo albums – Love Is A Reason (2005) and Fräulein Annie (2012). She has worked with the Viennese duo Tosca and with The Dining Rooms from Milan. She has a duo Deviant Divas with Laurie Schwartz and is member of the ensemble EMP (European Music Project) and of the ensemble Voxnova Italia.
