Werner Durand

Werner Durand (b. 1954, Karlsruhe, Germany) studied saxophone privately with Ariel Kalma in Paris, Indian classical music in India and Berlin with Kamalesh Maitra and Iranian Ney with Ali Reza Asgharia. In the early 1980s he started to build wind instruments out of plexi-glass and PVC. He collaborated with numerous composers and performers including David Behrman, Henning Christiansen, Catherine Christer Hennix, Arnold Dreyblatt and many others. He was co-founder of the ensembles The Thirteenth Tribe and Armchair Traveller. Since 2012 he is a member of the Logothetis Ensemble, performing graphic scores by Greek-Austrian composer Anestis Logothetis. In 2014 he performed with Tonaliens. In 2017 he was a member of Imaginäre Musik – ensemble of composers working with self-made instruments. As a duo Flocks he performs with multi-instrumentalist Ulrich Hohmann. He has curated festivals of traditional as well as avantgarde music in Berlin. He has released numerous CDs and LPs.
