Gabriela Krchňáčková
Cimbalom player Gabriela Krchňáčková is a graduate of the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, where she studied under Daniel Skála. She has repeatedly participated in masterclasses with Luigi Gagger and Lukács Miklós. Krchňáčková has collaborated with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra, Ostravská banda, and the Prague Chamber Soloists. She is a recipient of the Leoš Janáček Foundation award and a laureate of the Cimbalfest international cimbalom competition. In March 2024, she met György Kurtág in Budapest and worked with him on selected cimbalom pieces. In her diploma thesis in musicology, completed this year, Krchňáčková explored Kurtág’s cimbalom oeuvre and was nominated for the Dean’s Prize at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University for her work. Additionally, Krchňáčková teaches at an elementary music school and serves as assistant to the artistic director of the Ostrava Center for New Music, Petr Kotík.
