EFNI / Ensemble of Futurist Noise Intoners
EFNI (Ensemble of Futurist Noise Intoners) was established in 2023 with the aim of presenting new pieces for intonarumori, introducing listeners to the broad extensive possibilities of these semi-forgotten instruments, which are inextricably linked to the avant-garde art of the Italian Futurists. EFNI actively approaches composers and performers from both the world of academic composition and beyond (Peter Ablinger, Milan Knížák, Philip Corner, ao.), gradually developing a repertoire for the intonarumori. The group first performed in July 2024 as part of the Holy Fluxus concert series in Berlin. This was followed by a performance in Prague’s Atrium Žižkov in April 2025, and in May 2025, the intonarumori were heard at the Druskomanija festival of contemporary music (Druskininkai, Lithuania). EFNI comprises Anna Clementi (crepitatore/crackler), Werner Durand (ululatore/howler), Luciano Chessa (stropicciatore/scraper), Jan Kolář (the creator of the modern replicas of the Futurist instruments; alternately various intonarumori) and P.ST (electronics). Pianist and six-tone harmonium player Miroslav Beinhauer joined the ensemble for a concert at the Atrium in Prague and during studio recordings.
